Built in 1891 this elegant building was originally home to the Tontz
Hirschi Hardware Store owned by John Tontz and his nephew, Emil
Hirschi who was in charge of store operations. They sold wagons,
farm equipment, stoves and plows as well as the usual hardware
items. The upstairs housed the YMCA and Guthrie's St.John's
Lutheran Church held German language services there.
The building itself is unusual. Seven window openings spanning the
second floor feature a decorative arch holding the inscription date
1891. Five windows above that are enhanced by decorative metal
panels while the roof is a painted metal cornice. Hardwood floors and
beautiful hand-painted murals surround diners with historical scenes
reminiscent of the early days in Oklahoma.
In the near past, the Donald Coffin family of Guthrie ran Granny Had
One which was a popular restaurant for many years.
Stacy Smith took over the building in 2015 carrying on the tradition of
great food and a very special dining experience in Historic Guthrie.
